The MacBook Pro 14-inch with the M3 chip family retains its familiar design, introducing a new 'Space Black' color for the M3 Pro and Max models. The aluminum chassis and 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR screen with a resolution of 3024 x 1964 pixels remain unchanged. However, the ProMotion (120Hz) panel now reaches 600 nits of brightness for SDR content, up from 500 nits, while maintaining a peak HDR brightness of 1600 nits.
A significant update is the addition of the MacBook Pro 14 with a base M3 chip, replacing the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with a touch bar. This new model offers a refreshed design, a superior display, and a larger battery at a slightly higher price point.
The 2023 MacBook Pro, powered by the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips, delivers notable performance improvements. These chips, built on 3-nanometer process technology, feature next-generation GPUs and enhanced CPU performance cores, offering up to 2.5x faster rendering speeds, 30% faster CPU performance, and a 60% faster Neural Engine compared to the M1 chips.
While the higher-end models retain the same ports, the base Pro 14 with the M3 chip lacks the left USB-C port. The available ports include 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card reader, MagSafe, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
