Think about the easiness of having a big, vibrant monitor right in front of you. It’s not just about having a large screen—though that’s a huge plus. A monitor can totally change how you work, play, and even relax. Imagine being able to keep several windows open at once, dive into detailed graphics, or get lost in a high-definition movie without squinting at a tiny screen. Monitors come in all shapes and sizes, from ultra-thin, sleek designs to those giant screens that make you feel like you’re part of the action. They’ve evolved a lot over the years, packing in sharper resolutions, better colours, and more features than ever before. So, let’s take a closer look at how this everyday gadget has become such an essential part of our digital lives.
Let's start with the basics: screen size. From my experience testing various monitors, 24 inches seems to be the sweet spot for most people. While you might find smaller, cheaper options, they often don’t offer much in terms of a better experience, so the cost savings are minimal.
If you’re a creator, frequently work with spreadsheets, or simply want a more immersive display, a 27-inch monitor is a great choice. There are plenty of reasonably priced 27-inch models that deliver excellent value. I’ll be highlighting a few of these in the list, so stay tuned for some great recommendations.
Resolution essentially refers to the number of pixels on your screen. The higher the resolution, the sharper and more detailed your content will appear. However, higher-resolution monitors tend to come with a heftier price tag, so it’s important to find a balance. For most uses, Full HD (FHD) is perfectly adequate, but if you come across a great deal on a QHD or 2K display, it’s definitely worth considering.
The refresh rate determines how smooth your display appears. A higher refresh rate means a more fluid and seamless user experience. Fortunately, in Nepal, you can find higher refresh rate monitors at relatively affordable prices. For everyday tasks, you might not fully utilize a high refresh rate, but if you're into gaming, a monitor with a refresh rate of 120Hz or higher is essential. For general use, a 60Hz or 75Hz monitor should be more than sufficient.Top of Form
Color coverage measures the range of colors your monitor can display. The broader the color coverage, the richer and more varied the colors will appear, with more vibrant pinks, deeper reds, and brighter yellows. For most people, this might not make a huge difference in everyday use, especially since many monitors on this list offer 99% sRGB coverage or better, which is sufficient for general work and gaming. However, if you're involved in graphic-intensive tasks like video editing or photo manipulation, you might want to opt for a monitor with a wider color gamut.Top of Form
While not as crucial as other factors we’ve discussed, response time is still worth considering. It refers to how quickly a pixel on your screen can switch from one color to another. Monitors with slower response times may struggle with fast-moving content, such as FPS or racing games, leading to blurring or ghosting—where a trailing effect appears behind moving objects. For a smoother gaming experience, look for monitors with lower response times, typically under 5ms (GtG) or 1ms (MPRT).Top of Form
Unlike the other specifications we've discussed, this one is more subjective and depends on your personal experience with the monitor. It encompasses factors such as brightness, HDR support, adjustability, and viewing angles, all of which contribute to the overall feel and usability of the monitor.
Starting off our list is the Redmi 1C monitor priced at 20K. This 23.8-inch IPS monitor offers Full HD resolution and comes with a 60Hz refresh rate out of the box, which can be increased to 75Hz for a smoother experience. While the colours are decent for everyday use, the contrast is somewhat lower, and the adjustment options are quite limited. The 60Hz refresh rate and the lack of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) make it less suitable for gaming. However, for the price, it represents excellent value as a casual monitor for home or office use.
Redmi 1C Monitor Specifications:

If you're searching for an affordable gaming monitor, the Redmi G24 offers unbeatable value. Priced at 25k, it features a 23.8-inch VA panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms MPRT response time. The Full HD resolution is more than adequate for both gaming and media consumption, delivering clear, non-pixelated images. The color coverage is impressive for the price, boasting 120% sRGB. We reviewed the Redmi G24 a few months ago and had very few issues to note.

If you're ready to spend a bit more, there are some great options available. The MSI G244F is an excellent choice for those moving beyond the 30k range. It features an IPS panel, which offers superior viewing angles, and it boasts a higher refresh rate and better color coverage compared to models like the MSI MAG241C. Priced around 32k, the G244F presents a solid value for a gaming monitor within this budget.
MSI G244F Gaming Monitor Specifications:

While gaming monitors offer a lot of versatility, they might not suit every setting. For a modern office or a streamlined aesthetic, the MSI Modern series is worth considering. These monitors feature a minimalist design, good color accuracy, and Full HD displays, making them ideal for office use. They cover almost the full sRGB spectrum and include Eye Care and Low Blue Light certifications, which are beneficial for extended screen time. A notable feature is their tool-free assembly and the ability to set them up vertically without additional mounts. However, the built-in speakers are quite underwhelming.
The 23.8-inch MD241P is priced around NPR 27,000, while the larger 27-inch MD271P costs about 33k. For those who need office monitors, these models offer excellent value.

For our final recommendation, the MSI G32C4X offers exceptional value at under 50,000 rupees, even though it usually costs around 55-60K. This 32-inch gaming monitor is a great deal for an immersive experience, despite its Full HD resolution which may seem low for its size. In everyday use and gaming, the pixelation isn't highly noticeable unless you look closely. With an impressive 250Hz refresh rate, it stands out as the fastest monitor on this list. The VA panel provides excellent contrast and appealing HDR content, while its curved design ensures good viewing angles. With 91% DCI-P3 color coverage, it delivers outstanding color performance for a 32-inch monitor at this price.

If you're wondering why there aren't any professional monitors listed, it's because they tend to be quite expensive, and we've focused on monitors priced under NPR 50,000 for now. We'll update our list to include higher-priced options in the future. However, if you're just starting out or you edit/design as a hobby, most of the monitors on our current list offer excellent color coverage. A one-time calibration should set you up for smooth sailing. For those who are seasoned professionals or work extensively with color, there are professional-grade monitors available in Nepal from brands like BenQ, ViewSonic, ASUS (Pro Art Series), Samsung, and Apple, though these typically start at NPR 65,000.
