Based on POCO's previous release pattern, Nepal availability is expected after the broader regional rollout, although the company has not officially announced a launch date.
The POCO M8s expected price in Nepal is around Rs. 38,499, placing it in the competitive budget 5G segment. Local pricing is typically higher than global pricing because it includes import duties, VAT, logistics costs, distributor margins, and retailer pricing.
If launched near this price, the POCO M8s would offer strong value with its 7000mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, 144Hz display, Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, expandable storage, and Android 15 with HyperOS. Buyers who are not in immediate need of a new smartphone may benefit from waiting for the official Nepal launch, as introductory offers often include launch discounts, exchange bonuses, or bundled accessories that improve overall value.
The POCO M8s is designed to strengthen POCO's budget 5G lineup by prioritizing long battery life, a large display, and dependable daily performance instead of flagship-level hardware. Within POCO's portfolio, the M Series focuses on value and endurance, the X Series targets higher performance and gaming, while the F Series serves as the flagship lineup. By combining a 7000mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, and 144Hz display, Xiaomi targets students, office users, travelers, and media consumers who value reliability more than premium cameras or top-tier processors.
The POCO M8s follows a practical design with a glass front, plastic frame, and plastic back. Plastic construction helps reduce manufacturing costs, improves signal reception, and is generally more resistant to shattering than glass backs, although it feels less premium than metal. The large 7000mAh battery contributes to the 217g weight, but the 8.4mm thickness remains reasonable considering the battery capacity.
Its IP64 rating protects against dust ingress and everyday water splashes, making it suitable for daily use, although it is not intended for water immersion. The large 6.9-inch display offers an immersive viewing experience but makes one-handed operation more challenging for most users.
What We Still Need to Test After Launch
One-handed grip and comfort
Fingerprint resistance
Button tactile feedback
Haptic motor quality
Long-term durability after extended use
The POCO M8s features a large 6.9-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate, allowing smoother scrolling, animations, and supported games than conventional 60Hz displays. Its 1080 Ă— 2392 resolution produces approximately 374 PPI, which is sufficiently sharp for reading, streaming, and everyday multimedia.
The display reaches around 700 nits typical brightness and 850 nits peak brightness, where the typical value represents sustained brightness during normal use, while peak brightness is achieved temporarily under specific lighting conditions. Outdoor visibility should remain comfortable, although it is unlikely to match premium displays exceeding 2,000 nits.
Compared with an IPS LCD, AMOLED displays deliver deeper blacks by turning off individual pixels, improving contrast and reducing power consumption with darker content. Likewise, while 144Hz provides smoother motion than 120Hz, the real-world difference depends on whether the application or game supports refresh rates above 120Hz.
The POCO M8s is powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, manufactured using an efficient 6nm process. Its 2Ă— Cortex-A78 performance cores handle demanding applications such as gaming and photo processing, while 6Ă— Cortex-A55 efficiency cores manage background tasks with lower power consumption, helping extend battery life.
The integrated Adreno GPU is designed for casual gaming, smooth UI rendering, and multimedia rather than flagship-level graphics. Qualcomm's on-device AI engine also assists with camera processing, voice recognition, and system optimization without relying entirely on cloud processing.
Storage uses UFS 2.2, which provides noticeably faster app launches and file transfers than older eMMC storage but remains slower than UFS 3.1 when handling large files or installing games. One practical advantage is the inclusion of a microSD card slot (shared SIM slot), allowing users to expand storage for photos, videos, and offline media, although using expandable storage requires sacrificing the second SIM card slot.
Based on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 and its Adreno GPU, the POCO M8s is expected to deliver reliable gaming performance for casual and mainstream mobile titles rather than demanding AAA games. The 6nm chipset should also maintain good power efficiency during extended gaming sessions, helping reduce heat and battery drain.

|
PUBG Mobile / BGMI |
Smooth gameplay at HD–High settings with stable performance. |
|
Free Fire MAX |
High graphics with smooth frame rates. |
|
Call of Duty Mobile |
Medium to High graphics expected with consistent gameplay. |
|
Mobile Legends |
Smooth performance with stable frame rates. |
|
Asphalt Legends |

|
Genshin Impact |
Playable at Low to Medium settings with occasional frame drops during demanding scenes. |
These expectations are based on the chipset architecture and available information. Actual frame rates, thermals, and sustained performance will need to be verified after retail testing.
The POCO M8s features a 50MP primary camera with PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and an f/1.8 aperture. PDAF rapidly measures phase differences directly on the image sensor, allowing faster and more accurate focusing, while the wider aperture allows more light to reach the sensor, improving image quality in challenging lighting conditions. Expect dependable daylight photos with balanced HDR processing, natural colors, and respectable portrait separation, although low-light performance will likely remain limited without Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
The secondary rear camera has not been officially detailed, so its exact purpose remains unknown. It may assist with depth sensing or other imaging functions, but this will require confirmation after launch. The 8MP front camera should be suitable for selfies, social media uploads, and video calls, while both front and rear cameras are limited to 1080p video recording, making the phone more suitable for casual content creation than professional video work.
The 7000mAh Silicon-Carbon battery is the POCO M8s' defining feature. Silicon-Carbon technology stores more energy within the same physical space than traditional lithium-ion batteries, allowing Xiaomi to deliver significantly longer battery life without making the phone excessively thick. Combined with the efficient Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, users can expect excellent endurance for browsing, streaming, navigation, and daily productivity.
The 33W wired charging system prioritizes controlled charging and heat management over maximum speed, while 18W reverse wired charging allows the phone to act as a power source for compatible accessories or another smartphone in emergency situations. Xiaomi also claims improved battery longevity through optimized charging algorithms and better thermal management, helping preserve battery health during long-term ownership.
The POCO M8s runs Android 15 with HyperOS, providing a modern software experience with smoother animations, improved memory management, and better integration across Xiaomi devices. HyperOS also supports productivity features such as split-screen multitasking, floating windows, and extensive customization options, allowing users to personalize both appearance and workflow.
Where supported, AI-powered tools such as Google Gemini integration and smart search features improve productivity and content creation. However, Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the long-term Android update policy for the POCO M8s, so future software support should be treated as unknown until the company provides official information.
The POCO M8s includes stereo speakers enhanced by Dolby Atmos, producing a wider soundstage than single-speaker systems for movies, games, and music. Bluetooth 5.1 provides stable wireless connections for earbuds and wearables, while dual-band Wi-Fi supports faster and more reliable home networking.
Additional features such as 5G connectivity, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C with OTG improve everyday usability. NFC enables compatible contactless payments and quick pairing where supported, OTG allows external storage devices to connect directly to the phone, and multi-band GPS improves navigation accuracy for travel and mapping applications.
Several technologies quietly improve the overall ownership experience. The Silicon-Carbon battery increases energy density for longer battery life, while the 144Hz refresh rate creates smoother scrolling and animations than traditional 60Hz displays. Expandable microSD storage offers flexibility for users with large photo or video libraries, reducing dependence on cloud storage.
Likewise, Dolby Atmos enhances stereo speaker performance with more immersive audio, IP64 protection adds resistance against dust and everyday water splashes, NFC enables convenient wireless functions where available, and the side-mounted fingerprint sensor typically unlocks the phone faster than many entry-level optical in-display scanners while remaining reliable even with slightly damp fingers.
The POCO M8s is best suited for students, office users, families, and budget-conscious buyers who prioritize battery life over flagship-level performance. Its 7000mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, efficient Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, 144Hz display, and expandable storage make it an excellent choice for everyday tasks, online classes, streaming, social media, navigation, and casual gaming. Frequent travelers and media consumers will also appreciate the long battery life, stereo speakers, and 5G connectivity, reducing the need to carry a charger throughout the day.
Users focused on professional mobile photography, competitive gaming, or maximum processing power may find better alternatives with faster chipsets, higher-end camera systems, or more premium materials. Likewise, buyers who prioritize ultra-fast charging beyond 33W or flagship glass-and-metal construction should consider higher-tier smartphones. If raw performance is more important than battery endurance, other devices in POCO's X or F series may provide better value.
